There's a new clothing store in SM Davao. It's called Mental. Seriously. And I seriously love it! Their store definitely stood out, just look at the window display! Where there used to be benches, there are now wheelchairs! They will go to charity in 3 months time, says the note posted at the side. The salesladies even dress like nurses (but they're not real uniforms ha!). I found two shirt dresses that I adore, and they fit me too!

So when someone asks me where I bought my "unique" tops, I can say, "at Mental". Seriously.

Fashion Has Gone to the Movies

I seriously cannot wait to watch "Coco Avant Chanel" starring Audrey Tatou.



The movie itself is causing a stir in Paris because of the ads. Public smoking is banned in all of Paris. In Davao, we are a no-smoking city as well but we're not that strict. It's a movie for crying out loud.

Also looking forward to seeing this documentary chronicling Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour's preparations for the 2007 fall-fashion issue. The September Issue.

I admit, I'm a Looklet.com addict.

I first heard about this website on twitter, where a very fashionable and popular Philippine actress was gushing about it. Hmmm. Ma-try nga. And so it starts.

Remember the days of the cardboard paper doll? Or dressing up Barbie with her expensive clothes? This is the digitalized paperdoll, or more aptly named, cyberdoll, as I like to put it.

The clothes are oh so yummy, and you get to be a stylist, picking clothes and dressing up this cyberdoll to your liking. And the "doll" herself is gorgeous, who can go wrong? The website is still in Beta, but I hope it gains more members soon.

Now excuse me while I dress my doll.

Bliss by Monique Lhuillier

A-List fashion designer Monique Lhuillier is the go-to name when it comes to stylish and unique wedding dresses. She has designed the gowns of celebrities such as Britney Spears, Pink, Alicia Silverstone, Lea Salonga, and Ali Landry, just to name a few. Her creations are also very visible on red carpets. She even made a sketch of a lace-detailed, mermaid style frock for Bella Swan's wedding in "The Twilight" saga. Makes you proud, yes?

According to Stylelist, the husband and wife-founded company will be launching a more affordable line of wedding dresses, appropriately named Bliss by Monique Lhuillier. The designs will still be made of the finest lace, organza, and silk, and still carry the designer's trademark embellishments and flair for design, but priced for us regular folks.

15 of her most famous designs will be in stores this fall at the respective M.L. retailers worldwide. Prices are predicted to range from $ 2,300.00 to $3,500.00 Hmmm... still a bit pricey if you ask me, but understandable as her name is synonymous to quality and style.

The Sartorialist Published!

If you're a big fan of The Sartorialist like I am, then you must be dying to get your hands on Scott Schuman's book of his photographs. I not only like the fashion on his website, I love his photographic style as well. Very natural, using only available light, and with very interesting subjects. According to Mr. Schuman's site, the book comes out August 12th in the US, and the rest of the world by early September. (drool)

Stop Child Trafficking NOW!

Last August 14, 2009, ECPAT International (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) together with Body Shop launched the "Soft Hands, Kind Heart Hand Cream" campaign to benefit the ongoing worldwide battle against child trafficking.

Recognizing the pervasiveness of this modern evil, the entire The Body Shop network in more than 60 countries is supporting the Stop Trafficking Campaign to raise awareness of this issue. To support the campaign, The Body Shop will be donating 100% of the proceeds of the special edition Soft Hands, Kind Heart Hand Cream to ECPAT International.

The hand cream, which retails for Php195 a bottle, is a rich floral with a non-greasy formula that is easily absorbed by skin to banish rough hands and callouses. Personally, I've already scooped up a few bottles as part of my Christmas giveaways, because I don't like rushing my Christmas shopping.

ECPAT International estimates that about 1.8 million children and young people are exploited yearly in the global sex trade industry. These are the three steps typical of the trafficking experience:

1. Recruitment- The child or young person is taken away from their home, sometimes by force but often the trafficker will trick them or their parents into going, with the promise of a better life. On some occasions, desperate parents will sell their child to a trafficker.

2. Transport- Moving the child to their intended destination can often be dangerous and uncomfortable. The trafficker may hide the child in cramped conditions to prevent anyone from finding out what's happening. If ever questioned, they will lie about their relationship to their human "cargo" to avoid suspicion.

3. Destination- On arrival at their final destination, children and young people are often abused, beaten or raped into submission and can repeatedly be sold. THey are psychologically and physically damaged but too frightened or ashamed to ask for help. If they try to escape, their lives or the lives of their families are threatened. If they do manage to escape, the authorities don't always provide immediate protection for them, leaving them just as vulnerable.
